When you get your jarapa home, shake it outside to remove any loose cotton.

Wash on a 30 degree cycle (40 degree may also be OK for single-sided rugs) in your domestic machine. Larger rugs can be taken to a launderette or dry cleaner. If your rug is one of the looser-woven types, select a slower spin speed.

Single-sided jarapas will dry naturally on a clothes line. However, due to their weight, fluffy double-sided and Provenzal rugs should be tumble-dried. This will also enhance the pile. After washing a fluffy or Provenzal jarapa, check your washing machine filter for any excess fluff, and clear it if necessary.

Do not bleach and do not iron.

Jarapas can also be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner. For fluffy rugs, use a soft-furnishing attachment. Jarapas can be secured on any smooth surfaces using anti-slip products such as rug underlay, sticky tape or rug anti-slip spray. One supplier is Elliot Antislip – tel: 01386-859552.
